Parent Forum September 2021 Adelaide

Parents and carers of  students with disability were invited to attend the Disability Policy & Programs September 16 2021 Parent Forum

With the theme ‘Navigating Together’, the day commenced with a Table Talk session where participants were asked to discuss ‘what has brought you here today and what do you expect to get from the day’ – the outcomes will be discussed by the Parent Forum Reference Group and will assist in planning for future forums.

Ian May, Director Disability Policy and Programs gave a brief update on department directions including the work underway on ‘Inclusion’ advising that a workshop on this topic will be included in the agenda for the next forum on 18th November.

A keynote ‘My Lived Experience’ by Matt Cowdrey OAM, Member for Colton and Paralympian was very well received and inspirational. You can view Ian’s and Matt’s presentation below

Participants were able to attend two of four presentations:

  • Successful transitions through school
  • Student Support Services – making the connections
  • Post school life options
  • A visit to the Special Education Resource Unit provided the opportunity for parents to browse through the resource unit, become a member and find out what SERU offers.

Participants were asked to complete an online survey following the forum. Information collected is used to inform the Parent Forum Reference Group with suggestions for improvements and future topic suggestions.

The next forum will be held on Thursday 18 November 2021 – refer ‘Parent Forum 18 November 2021 Adelaide’ to view the program and register.

The forums provide a safe and supportive environment for parents and carers to share your experience, obtain information and helpful strategies as well as providing the opportunity to have questions answered.
